Cara Tucker
Hello! I’m Cara, an Occupational Therapist, Health Coach and Foot Health Practitioner living and working in Buckinghamshire, UK. My mission is to help people live a healthy, fulfilled life doing the things that have most meaning and bring them joy. I absolutely love science, health and evidence-based practice, so you can be assured that the treatments I provide are backed up by research.
The focus of my practice is on health promotion and improving quality of life through sleep, menstrual health and lifestyle interventions, as well as falls prevention and management, cognition and active aging in the older adult population. I use a blended approach when working with physical health and mental wellbeing drawing on a range of practical skills and psychological approaches and frameworks to inform my practice and tailor my treatment to each individual.
When I’m not working, I enjoy outdoor walks and connecting with nature, art and crafts, playing the piano, and fitness boxing. I’m also a wife, mum of two children and animal mum to a goofy black Labrador and two sassy guinea pigs!
My Story
After completing a science degree and working at an assistance dog charity, I went on to train in Occupational Therapy. I worked as an Occupational Therapist in the NHS covering a wide range of acute hospital wards before specialising in Neurology and Stroke care.
After nearly a decade in the NHS I reached a point of burnout, struggling to juggle life with young children alongside work, managing a household and family relationships. I was overly reliant on support from family, which I was so fortunate to have, but still missed out on sports days, school plays and all the important things. When I wasn’t at work I lacked the energy and motivation to do more than what was absolutely necessary to get by. When my health started to get badly affected, I knew I had to make a change.
I left my job in the NHS and started working for myself, fitting my work around school hours and holidays. With encouragement from a Chiropodist family member, I had trained as a Foot Health Practitioner and started providing foot care in the community alongside independent Occupational Therapy work as an associate, providing assessments for equipment and rehabilitation in peoples own homes. I turned my Occupational Therapy skills on myself, getting back to the root of Occupational Therapy to redefine my own occupational balance and restore my spark for life. I have found Occupational Therapy to be a powerful, holistic therapy in supporting my own physical and mental health and has become a mindset and way of living more than a job.
I now combine all of my skills together with my passion for quality of life and health promotion to help people make lifestyle changes for a life full of vitality.
